Bogotá, nestled high in the Andes mountains at an average altitude of 2,640 meters (8,660 feet), is a city that combines the old and the new. The historic La Candelaria district features colonial-era landmarks like the neoclassical performance hall Teatro Colón and the 17th-century Iglesia de San Francisco.
