Infrastructure is basic but functional; electricity and water are reliable, though options for dining and nightlife are severely limited compared to Tbilisi or Batumi. The village's appeal lies entirely in its mountain setting and access to wilderness; expect cold, isolation, and close-quarters guesthouse living rather than comfort or cosmopolitan culture. The best time to visit is June through September, when temperatures warm to 10–15°C (50–59°F) during the day and high-altitude routes are snow-free, enabling multi-day treks. July and August see the highest tourist traffic, occasionally making guesthouses full and prices slightly elevated. October brings stunning autumn light but increasingly unreliable weather; November through May is winter climbing season or closed to most trekkers due to snow, avalanche risk, and extreme cold (nights drop to -15°C / 5°F).
