Kota Kinabalu, often known simply as KK, is the capital of Sabah, a Malaysian state in Borneo. It is known for its bustling waterfront, busy markets, and modern boardwalk. The city is the gateway to the stunning Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, which comprises several breathtaking islands ideal for diving, snorkeling, and beach activities. Mount Kinabalu, one of Southeast Asia's tallest peaks, is a popular climbing destination just outside the city. The months of January to March are the busiest due to the dry season, making it the best time for island hopping and beach activities. Rainy seasons, usually from October to December, can deter outdoor plans but offer a more laid-back experience with fewer tourists.
